Steps To Counter Hardship in Islam

All the hardships inflict on a human because of the trials and test that Allah wants a Muslim to go through to test his faith. Those who have read the Quran and have scrutinized the meanings of its teachings know that Satan is the clear enemy and can persuade you to fall into his traps.
The entire Quran is the source of guidance and has methods to be patient in the case of miseries and difficulties. Surah Ar Rahman has the clear listings of the bounties of Allah, which includes every favor of the Lord upon Muslims to be thankful for, avoiding the devilish whispers.
In the state of depression, when a Muslim thinks of these favors then his pain alleviates with the thinking that Allah is there for him and will cast His blessings by protecting him from every trial. In these hard times it is the duty of a Muslim call to Allah in order to seek help. Allah says in the Quran:
“Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors…. And invoke Him in fear and aspiration. Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good.” [Quran7:55-56]

Have Strong Faith in Allah:
During tough time the important thing is to keep a strong faith in Allah because we all are dependent upon Him and He is the only one to rescue and to award blessings. This thinking that whatever comes, comes from the High Lord is the part of faith which makes the heart contented and makes a Muslim satisfied. During the days of ordeals Allah tests those whom He loves as Hadith narrates:
“When Allah wants to be good to someone, He tries him with some hardship.” [Bukhari]

Offer Salah:
Whenever a person is in misery he should offer two Rak’ah of prayers, then he will feel happy. No matter whatever is the nature of the problem, He the Exalted Lord is the one who can solve it and alleviate the problem for a follower. Ablution in these cases is the best way to wipe the tension and always prostrate in front of your Lord, giving Him your problems, is the best way to reduce tensions.

Quran Recitation:
Quran is divine in its teachings so recite it whenever you are down or feel upset. In the state of misery recommended thing is to talk to Allah, Quran is the book of Allah comprises His words hence recitation is to talk to Him. In the remembrance of Allah, hearts otherwise find peace as they award soothing effects to the hearts.
“Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured." [Quran 13:28]

Make Dua to Allah:
Allah appreciates and loves those who ask Him for their needs to reduce their miseries in order to award them their prayers. One significant condition in making supplication is to ask with absolute faith and with assurance that Allah will award and if not then in the form of something better than that.

Give Zakah:
Sadaqah is warding off evils and wipe sins so if you are in pain or feel despondent then give charity. It is the simplest and quickest way of warding off calamities and is dear to the Lord.
“Sadaqah repels seventy different types of calamities. The least of them is leprosy and white liver.” [Al-Jami’us Sagheer- Faidhul Qadeer]

In short, no problem is gross or big in front of Allah. Fear when there would have been no one but with the presence of Allah, nothing is impossible, hence shields a Muslim from becoming hopeless and helpless.
